MDPMAMB Bowling Club
To all members of the MD Bowling Club, our coach, Mr. Mike Griffith has proposed a Bowling league where we will bowl against each other and possibly against the students from PTE Katok as well.
Now, we are searching for members of the Bowling Club that can come to this league which held every Tuesday without any problem (eg. transport, money, etc). It will be held after Mike (the coach) has finished his programme for that particular week and it will end at probably around 5pm. This idea is still under consideration, it may or may not happen but if you are interested in joining this league, please write your name and your respective BE/AE below. Thank You.
-Muhd Azizul Amin bin Hj Bakar
President of MD Bowling Club

Maktab Duli Victorious at Malay Debate
Monday, April 27, 2009
Sunday, 26th April 2009.
Hj Mohammad, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Mahad Islam Brunei with their debating antics.
Maktab Duli PMAMB wins the competition. From left: Norizam, Nurul Syakirah and Ewi Noveyddah.
Gesture-rich debate was not enough for Mahad Islam Brunei to beat Maktab Duli PMAMB in the final of the Malay Language Debate competition for Secondary Schools, Colleges and Private Education Institutions yesterday.
Maktab Duli's strong arguments in the debate entitled "Sports has equal importance to academic" was enough to overstep some of Mahad Islam Brunei humorous-filled debating antics. Mahad Islam Brunei was in support of the subject, while Maktab Duli PMAMB was in opposition to the subject.
Mahad Islam Brunei at times drew the audiences into their sides by inviting them to confer in agreements, however, it was Maktab Duli's powerful arguments that punched the light out of the opponents in equal succession and conquered this year's championship.
Mahad Islam Brunei proposition was that mental fitness relates to one's well-being or their physical fitness, therefore sports is equally important to academic. Intelligence will not help one to climb a building without being physically fit. It is clearly outlined in the SPN21 (21st Century Education System) that sports are regarded as important.
Maktab Duli, however, said that whilst physical fitness is important, there is no equal when it comes to academic. It is academic that helped create sports rules, it is academic that build a building, not sports.
Sports will not build a building let alone manage a nation, they stated. In SPN21, there are more elements of academic rather than sports, therefore sports are below academic in importance, and they do not have an equal place, whether in life or the afterlife.
The final round was held at Dewan Raya RTB yesterday. The debate competition was organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education. This year, Sayyidina Hassan Secondary School hosted it.
The guest of honour was Hj Mohammad bin Hj Abd Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present was Awg Arsad bin Abd Adis, Director of Co-Curriculum Department, Ministry of Education.
The guest of honour said it was understood that the competition was meant to encourage the development of debating skills in public, but should also be used to promote understanding and camaraderie between students as well as a platform to exchange ideas and experiences.
He added that it was encouraging to know that 39 schools and colleges took part in the competition. The competition was in a right track towards encouraging students to debate their ideas in public and to think critically on subjects in spontaneous passion.

Academic Award for November A-Level 2008
Tuesday, April 7, 2009
Tuesday, 7th April 2009.
Cheers resonated from the Maktab Duli auditorium yesterday afternoon as proud parents and teachers witnessed a post-examination award ceremony that saw a 100 per cent pass rate in Further Mathematics. "For the first time in the history of the college, two of our award recipients have been offered a place at Cambridge University, one of the most distinguished and venerated places of study in the world," said Maktab Duli Acting Principal Hjh Seroja Hj Siau.
"I am also delighted to announce that this year five departments in the college have received top percentage in 'A' level passes in their respective disciplines among the other sixth form institutions in Brunei Darussalam," she added.
The ceremony saw a total of 52 students receiving awards for attaining no less than five 'A's in their examinations, and another 27 top achievers who received at least three 'A's in the final examination before pursuing a degree at university.
A large majority of the award winners have already been offered a spot to study at several renowned overseas institutions.
Presenting the awards to the students was Hjh Aishah Hj Muhammad Husain, the Director of Schools under the Ministry of Education.
"There are also those who have got scholarships to study health sciences in New Zealand, and many more are awaiting the results of various scholarships offered by government and private institutions," the Acting Principal said in her speech.
She said that yesterday's recipients share one thing in common, "The spirit of the pursuit of excellence and passion for learning."
In their pursuit towards excellence, she said, the students demonstrated the important values of perseverance, resilience and diligence.
"Therefore these are the people who we are extremely proud of, in which their success can be a motivating factor for all of us to strive and aim for much higher, better goals in the future."
